Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SOC may launch on May 9 for mid-range smartphones :Sources

After having launched 835 SoC for the high-end devices, Qualcomm is now expected to launch Snapdragon 660 SoC that is speculated to be aimed at mid-range smartphones. Qualcomm has sent out invites to media for a launch event in Beijing on May, triggering speculations that the much-anticipated Snapdragon 660 SoC will be unveiled on that day.

According to reports, the chipset powering the next line of the mid-range devices will feature eight-core architecture and may have custom Kryo cores just like one seen on Snapdragon 820.  The octa-core chipset might as well run on a combination of four Cortex-A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHZ and four Cortex-A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz.

Qualcomm is said to be skipping 10nm design on Snapdragon 660. Rather the chipset is rumored to be based on 14nm design, support X10 LTE and QuickCharge 4.0. Earlier leaks suggest that the chipset could get onboard support for UFS 2.1 storage and have two LPDDR4 RAMs clocked at 1866MHz. For the graphics, Snapdragon 660 is said to be coupled with Adreno 512 GPU.

Reportedly, Snapdragon 660 SoC production is said to kick off in Q2 this year. Notable upcoming devices to feature the Snapdragon 66o includes Nokia 7, Nokia 8, Xiaomi Mi Max 2 and Xperia X Ultra.
